How to Avail Domicile / Resident Certificate in Punjab
A Domicile/Residence Certificate is generally issued to prove that the person is bearing the Certificate is a permanent Domicile/Resident of the State by which the Certificate is being issued. The Domicile Certificate is generally required as proof of residence to avail Domicile/Resident Quotas in educational institutions which is offered by the state govt. and in the Government Service, and this certificate is also used in case of govt. jobs where local residents are preferred.
The prescribed application forms for domicile certificate are also available through online or from the local authorities, such as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) , Tehsildar’s office, Revenue Department, District Collector’s Office, or any other concerned authority as specified in the State/UT of your residence.
To apply for the certificate you will be required to produce proof of residence in the Punjab State for a specified minimum period and that is 3 years or depending on the rules in the State concerned. The essential Documents for proving your residence , identity, which is attested by officers with the necessary authority, applicant’s school certificates and the district Tehsil Enquiry Report also required for obtaining the same.

To avail of the resident quota reservation in educational institutes
To avail of the resident quota reservation in Government Services
Avail the proof of residence in the state is needed.
Permanent Residents of the State, in accordance with Punjab Government Instructions contained in Letter No. 1-3-95/3 PP-II/9619, dated 06-06-1996.
Women who are not originally belonging to a State but married to men who are permanent residents of the State are eligible to apply for Domicile Certificate.

Domicile Certificate can be made only in one State. No one can apply for it from more than one state. As it is a punishable offence.

Process to Apply:
To apply for the domicile certificate an applicant is required to apply for it along with Rs.1.25/- stamp affixed on his application and provide an affidavit which states that an applicant is residing permanently at the provided mentioned address and the applicant has not yet before availed such certificate in the state. After that the application will be sent for examination and verification to the concerned Patwari through the concerned Tehsildar. After examining from the Patwari he puts his Signatures and reports back to the district Tehsildar. Statements of the applicant and the Lambardar of the village are recorded on the application and the case is sent to the Divisional Magistrate’s Office. Once the report finds correct then the applicant will be issued the certificate after few days.
